About BITS
The Birla Institute of Technology & Science, BITS Pilani is an all-India Institute for higher education. The primary motive of BITS is to “train young men and women able and eager to create and put into action such ideas, methods, techniques and information”. The Institute is a dream come true of its founder late Mr G.D.Birla – an eminent industrialist, a participant in Indian freedom struggle and a close associate of the Father of Indian Nation late Mr. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (Mahatma Gandhi). What started in early 1900s as a small school, blossomed into a set of colleges for higher education, ranging from the Humanities to Engineering until 1964 when all these colleges amalgamated to culminate into a unique Indian University of International standing. This university was christened as the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, known to many as BITS, Pilani.

BITS - Courses
B.E.
These programmes in engineering are mathematics and hard science based and incorporate many up-to-date techniques of analysis and synthesis. One of the unique features of BITS Pilani is the flexibility it offers its students.
- B.E. Chemical Engineering
- B.E. Civil Engineering
- B.E. Computer Science
- B.E. Electrical and Electronics
- B.E. Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering
- B.E. Mechanical Engineering
- B.E. Manufacturing Engineering
M.E.
The requirements of these programmes are described in terms of the total number of units which a student must complete rather than the duration. However, most students may be able to complete such a programme in four semesters, wherein the last semester may be spent for either of the two available alternatives, namely, Dissertation and Practice School. Motivated students who opt for the dissertation stream may finish the programme in three semesters by starting work on the dissertation component in their first semester itself.
B.Pharm.
Our B.Pharm. programme has been structured to match and exceed the requirements of the Pharmacy Council of India. The programme offers students additional courses which give the shape and flavour of engineering as well as fundamental sciences giving an added dimension to the student’s academics.
- 8 semester modular structure
- Electives option to choose a specific career path
- Seven and a half months Practice School (PS-I of 2 months and PS-II of 5.5 months)/ Thesis option
M.Sc.
These are integrated degree programmes without any intermediate B.Sc. degree. While these programmes ensure the required science component in any comparable postgraduate science degrees of other universities, they also incorporate many courses which have been notionally considered to be the domain of engineers. The integrated nature of the programmes and their analytical and engineering science contents give them a added professional character and equips students with the skills and problem solving abilities to participate usefully in industrial jobs.
M.Sc.(Tech.)
These programmes are multi-disciplinary, technological in character and are designed to meet the requirements of newly emerging professional activities. While these programmes are also science and technology based, their requirements of mathematics, science, applied science etc. will be different from B.E. (Hons.) and M.Sc. (Hons.). The areas which are currently incorporated in these degree programmes are Engineering Technology, Information Systems, Finance and General Studies.
MBA
The Management group at BITS, Pilani was established in the year 1971. It initially offered the two year Master of Business Administration (MBA) programme but later in 1973, when the institute created an integrated educational structure, MBA evolved into the integrated first degree programme Master of Management Studies (MMS) which is a blend of engineering and management. This programme was successfully offered for a time period of three decades. Based on the industrial demands, the course was restructured as MBA in the year 2006.

BITS Pilani is a preferred destination to recruit from, for a large number of companies. We feel validated in the quality of education and experience we provide to our students when a majority of our students are successfully placed on campus. Each of our programmes are designed to give our students a balanced education with theory as well as practical knowledge. In addition, they are encouraged to participate in extra curricular activities as it helps them develop soft skills and develop well rounded personalities. It is this that differentiates our students and makes them a valuable part of any company they join.

Why Recruit from BITS
Students with experience in industry – the Practice School Program ensures that every student has spent over 7 months working in industry even before graduation. The program exposes them to real life applications of their course work and teaches them to work in a collaborative environment. The Practice School gives students the vital experience needed to adapt quickly to careers in industry.

Placement Process
Process Driven Placement System – Over time our placement process has been refined to make recruitment as simple as possible for students and companies alike.

Placement Seasons
BITS Pilani campuses schedule two placement seasons every year. Our students work in industry for one of the two semesters in their final year as part of the Practice School programme and are available only part of the time on campus. Details of the profiles of students available for placement in each season can be found two months ahead of placements on each campus website.
